Xero

Senior product designer

Apr 2022 – Jun 2025

  • Led the complete end-to-end design of the Xero Payroll switching wizard which achieved a 62% reduction in onboarding time (from 17min to 6:30min) increasing product adoption and stickiness.
  • Proactively collaborated with cross-functional design teams to advocate for an aligned payroll setup experience, influencing future product strategy to ensure a singular, more intuitive onboarding journey.
  • Championed a critical user experience improvement by demonstrating a flawed first-time experience that successfully influenced Product Management to pause release and secure time for a more supportive, trust-building onboarding experience.
  • Improved comprehension of National Minimum Wage calculations in a legacy product area that helped users to identify and correct underpayments.
  • Pioneered a year end payroll checklist, resulting in a 10% increase in user satisfaction, a decrease in customer support cases, and a reusable design pattern.
  • Self initiated and facilitated ‘rolodex’ ideation sessions across disciplines to teach good design practices, ideate new product opportunities, and directly influence roadmap development.

Product designer

Aug 2018 – Apr 2022

  • Led foundational research and design for a complex initiative to redefine ‘client’ relationships across three disparate products, producing widely adopted internal models that directly influenced future product strategy and enabled critical database consolidation.
  • Developed and utilised a unique cartoon-based storytelling method to visualise the complex ‘jobs to be done’ for accountants, which became a key tool for educating new hires and cross-functional teams, significantly improving shared understanding and product alignment.
  • Secured business support and showed project progress by illustrating the complex process of combining two products together and align cross functional team objectives.
  • Leveraged HTML/CSS in Codepen to create high-fidelity prototypes for faster user testing, significantly streamlining design validation.
  • Won customer’s ‘People’s Choice’ award with a highly adopted link attachment feature that centralised tax calculations for easier reviewing.
  • Won runner-up in a company hackathon by demonstrating with a lo-fi prototype how redefining the ‘client’ model could fundamentally improve multiple product areas, directly changing the approach for future development teams.
